Healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable agriculture and thriving communities. In Sierra Leone, soil degradation and traditional farming practices threaten food production and the environment. Green Is Life works with local farmers to restore soil health and promote sustainable solutions for future generations.
Restoring the Soil, Protecting the Future
Healthy soil is essential for food production and biodiversity. Unfortunately, many farming areas in Sierra Leone are losing fertility because of bush burning and unsustainable agricultural practices. Repeated burning destroys microorganisms and reduces the quality of the soil.

Green Is Life works with local farmers to introduce sustainable farming methods that protect the land and increase productivity.
Green is Life grows trees and flowers for a greener environment
Our team in Sierra Leone is working hard to grow and care for young trees and flowers. In our nursery, the plants receive the time and attention they need to grow strong and healthy.
The young trees and flowers will eventually be planted to make the environment greener, healthier and more pleasant to live in. Step by step, we are creating more green spaces and improving the living environment for local communities.
Through this work, Green is Life is not only planting trees, but also contributing to a sustainable future in which people and nature can grow together.

Compost Instead of Burning
Traditional bush burning may provide short-term benefits, but it damages the soil and kills valuable organisms such as earthworms. We encourage farmers to use plant material as compost instead. Compost enriches the soil naturally and helps retain nutrients for future harvests.
Supporting Farmers
Green Is Life supports agricultural communities through education and mechanized farming. By promoting biodiversity and healthy soil management, farmers can continue using the same land for many years instead of abandoning exhausted fields.

Long-Term Sustainability
Healthy soil means better harvests, greater food security and less pressure on forests and natural ecosystems. Sustainable agriculture benefits both people and nature.
