Reducing Plastic Pollution Through Education
Plastic waste is one of the biggest environmental challenges in Sierra Leone. Single-use plastic products are widely used and are often burned together with other waste. This causes pollution and damages the environment.
To address this problem, Green Is Life launched Project Plastic Control.
Starting with Schools
Children are powerful agents of change. Through Project Plastic Control, schools receive specially marked bins for collecting plastic waste. Students learn why plastic pollution is harmful and how separating waste contributes to a cleaner environment.
Clean Schools and Community Awareness
By teaching children responsible waste management, the message spreads beyond the classroom. Students share their knowledge with their families and communities, helping to create greater environmental awareness.
Turning Waste into Opportunity
Collected plastic can be sold for recycling, providing economic opportunities for schools and people who make a living from collecting recyclable materials. The project creates benefits for both the environment and local communities.
Growing Impact
Project Plastic Control started with twelve schools and continues to expand. Additional schools have joined voluntarily, and the Ministry of Education has expressed support for extending the project throughout Sierra Leone.
